What Alternative Herbal Remedy Would You Recomend In Place Of Hrt For Hot Flushes For My Wife Who Is 60yrs Old
Tofu and other soy products have helped many people. If her symptoms aren’t too extreme, that may do the trick. Chocolate soy milk may be more palatable to her than the other flavors (soy milk does take some getting used to when a person is used to dairy).
Also, limiting caffeine can help.
Some women find completely eliminating dairy products can do wonders. They can be reintroduced slowly after she is past the uncomfortable symptoms (it may be months, even years).
Good luck to her! And thank you for trying to help her–she’s lucky to have such a supportive partner.
Black Cohash is the most recommended. It is an ingredient in the more expensive medications sold over the counter for menopause. I have tried it and I did ok with it.
If she is not willing to do the hormone dance there is not much she can do —avoid alcohol and hot sun, they don’t last long, wash her face with a cold cloth or give her a pretty fan to use—those of us that have them seem to always have them–others never have them.
there is a chinese herbal patent cslled ‘zhi bai di huang wan’.
What you need to do is get her some natural progesterone cream.
HRT therapy does NOT have actual human hormone in it. What it has is a chemical that is similar to progesterone and estrogen in it, that has some hormonal effect (enough to stop the hot flashes). However, it is so much different from real human hormone, chemically, that it causes extremely dangerous side effects (like cancer). This is why it is a good idea to avoid HRT. Note that it would be trivial to manufacture HRT with something the exact chemical composition of real human hormones. This would be much more effective and completely safe. But, it can’t be patented and you can’t make money off of it. This should piss people off….dangerous, less effective treatments replacing safe, effective treatments for reasons of greed.
Luckily, there is an alternative. Natural progesterone cream is a cosmetic. It has a generally regarded as safe label (an FDA designation that means its so safe it doesn’t need to be regulated). The cream has a chemical in it that is EXACTLY the same as human progesterone. You put it on your skin and the progesterone absorbs into your body. If you took a hormone panel before and then after treatment, your progesterone levels would rise (ie it actually is getting into the body in a therapeutic dose). If a woman is post-menopausal and experiencing hot flashes, this should cause them to stop. It’s also effective in treating a number of complaints women get due to hormonal imbalance (example, difficult, painful periods). The progesterone will also make your wife’s skin alot more soft and supple, turning back the clock somewhat (that is the whole point of its use as a cosmetic).
