Before you start any herbal treatments, make sure to check with your doctor or pharmacy to make sure they will not interact with the medicine you are already taking.
Here’s a few I know that some people say work for them: Fish Oil (I have done this one…helps with mild depression), St. John’s Wort, Relicore
Good luck

Here are a couple things that might help.
Kava Kava – they make you slightly eurphoric and it’s recommended that you don’t drive when you take them.
A combination of bee pollen, royal jelly or propolis, siberian ginseng. High in nutrients, especailly B vitamins and can help with energy, lethargy and mental alertness.
Lavender essential oil is very calming and soothing. Grapefruit essential oil is very uplifting. Peppermint brings about mental alertness. They are all pleasant to use and inexpensive, however, they are more for people who need a little pick me up now and then and not for someone who is chronically depressed.
Cry. Crying actually releases toxins out of the body. It’s an emotional release. If you are already crying often, then you need to find out what the problem is and address it. Healthy people don’t cry on a regular basis.
I know you will hear this lots, drink plenty of water. It helps flush toxins out of the body.
I would go to a herbalist or naturpathic doctor if you have been feeling this way for more than 3 months. Allergies can give a host of symptoms, including tiredness and depression. Candida Albicans is another possibility. If you are physically sick, depression meds are just going to treat the symptom.
Also, have you had a loss recently? A relationship break-up, loss of job or status, moved from one location to another? These are the most common losses most people experience, but we are all individuals and what stresses one person may not effect another.
What was going on when you became ill? If you have suffered a loss, you will probably need to go through a grieving process. If that is the case, depression is a healthy response to a loss and meds will just stop you from healing emotionally. A good counsellor or pastor could help you through this. Research has shown that prayer is effective.
To be honest, allopathic doctors aren’t very skilled in helping people in the area of depression because they are rarely qualified in finding out if depression is the problem in and of itself, or a symptom of another problem. However, if your meds aren’t helping, you do need to try another presciption. There’s no point in taking something that doesn’t work and there are always side effects to pharmaceuticals.
Hope this helps. Best of luck.

You shouldn’t take any herbs while taking prescription anti depressants. Have you talked to your doctor about this? He may need to change the dose you are taking or even change them all together.
If you aren’t on any antidepressants-remember if you ARE NOT on any antidepressants, then there a few herbal methods for you. St Johns Warts-Kava Kava-Melatonin for sleeping. Just remember that if you take these along with prescription meds-you can suffer from serious complications.
You could also try taking a warm bath with lavender oil in it and drink herbal tea.

Sometimes meds can have the opposite effect of what it is trying to accomplish. Remember, it is still a drug. You can try some ginseng tea. It is for longevity. But more than likely, it will trick your mind into thinking it is doing the job. Which is not a bad thing at all. Because it still gets the job done. I used to drink a lot of ginseng tea and it always made me feal better. But now, I drink a lot of grean tea. Home brewed of course.

try some sunshine…if that is not available, then try some vitamin D. That is in sunshine and should give you a good boost.

Have you talked to your doctor about switching meds?
How long have you been on the medicine?
It could take up to a month or more for SSRI, and other medications for depression to work.
I once was prescribed Zoloft for tiredness due to Epstein Barr. It worked for a while, and then for some reason it quit helping and made me feel more tired, after I’d already been taking it for 6 months.
I tried Lexapro, which most people think is great, but it made me feel worse. Now my doctor has me trying Prozac, which seems to be better.
You may have to just wait a while, or get your doctor to switch you. The first answerer is right you need to talk to your doctor before taking any supplements. I can suggest a simple multi-vitamin. Try upping your intake of B vitamins.
Also, has your doctor talked to you about sleep apnea at all?
If you’re not achieving good sleep that will cause depression and tiredness.
Have you had any blood work done? Sometimes there is some other underlying medical condition that will cause these symptoms.
Basically, you have to keep talking to your doctor. It’s a crapshoot. It could be anything causing your problems. Your doctor can only try a medicine, wait for you to tell them what you think, and try again if it didn’t work.
Good luck
